The Brief

The Approach

Outcomes

Onsight Climbing had a genuinely distinctive offering: a small, community-driven bouldering gym where staff actively help members improve, not just climb. The problem was that none of that was coming through in their content. The Instagram presence was operational, the visual quality was inconsistent, and no anchor piece communicated what the gym actually stood for. The brief was to build that anchor: a short, cinematic film that captured the gym's culture and gave Onsight a visual identity to build on.

Rather than produce a gym ad, the film was built as an observational documentary. No scripted moments, no voiceover, no dialogue. The camera followed a real morning session: an ensemble of members at different stages of ability, and found the story in a quiet, unscripted interaction between a staff member and a climber working through a problem they had not yet solved. Shooting on a Sony A7C with a mix of handheld close work and locked-off wides, the visual language leaned into the physicality of the sport: grip, chalk, expression, effort, and the fall as much as the send. Sound was rebuilt entirely in post using foley recorded on the day, layered beneath a sparse, dojo-influenced score that reinforces the film's central idea, this is a place where patience, craft, and the right guidance make the difference.

Within 12 hours of posting, the film became Onsight's most liked reel to date. Against a typical baseline of 2,000 to 4,000 views and 40 to 70 likes, the film reached 2,000 views with 74 likes, 12 shares, and a comment within its first half day live. The engagement rate nearly doubled the account average. The shares in particular signal that the content crossed from passive viewing into active recommendation — the clearest indicator that the film connected with an audience beyond Onsight's existing followers.
